Domain Names and their Value

Probably one of the most important if not the most important decision will be what domain name will I use for my business. Beyond being your web location, your domain name is also your identity on the web. And although many people think that their website is their first impression online, it’s actually their domain name that is the first impression.

Domain names are much more than a simple technical shortcut. They serve as a memorable representation of the content that we can find on a certain website. A short, original and catchy domain name can make a big difference in its future success. So, let’s get started!

When you go through the exploration for domain names, you should take your time. Make sure that your choice of a domain is perfect for what you want it to represent. Keep in mind that new domains are registered by the second. The competition is fierce, and this is exactly why you have to be creative if you want your business to be a success. The catchier your domain name – the better chances for it to become popular quickly. Stick to something short that could be easily spelled and memorized by your potential customers.

Spending a few hundred to a few thousand on a domain name will change the course of your business, there is NO question about this and it has been proven time and time again. While you may thing, “Holy Cow” you want me to buy a domain for $$$$.00, thats like buying a car.

Well first your car is going to depreciate, second your car doesn’t make you money, third your car needs continual maintenance, fourth your car will never take you to all the places your domain will reach in your lifetime..

You will spend thousands on a patio set or living room set, but you wont spend a few thousand on a domain name that can change your business and add MORE income to your company each and every day ? I think you know the answer to this once you take a minute to understand a domains value.

Why do you think Facebook, Twitter, Google, Bing, Hotels, Ticketmaster, Honda and many other big companies made their choice on a name? Yes you are a small business but look at the value this would mean to you on a scaled down basis. Their is no one thing that could change your business more than a great domain name, other than winning the lottery 🙂

A business could potentially live or die on the web, based on its domain name. I’m not trying to scare you into paralysis, but I am trying to help you understand just how important a domain name really is. Plus we do not make a dime on these names, it is your purchase and you own it. Its a definite asset to your business immediately.

Having a great domain name with the right extensions (.com) makes every company look more professional. Unusual domain names simply don’t inspire confidence in clients, therefore making a poor choice would directly reflect on the business that is being promoted.

That is a great question..For big business that makes a lot of sense many times…but for a small business you will have to look at the expense of promoting it..That is the REAL question.

Another great question and I believe the answer is yes and no..Lets say your company is Steves Electric Company Inc … and you register steveselectriccompanyinc.com to use as your domain name..That is a BIG MISTAKE.. Yes you should register that and more variations of it but a better name would be StevesElectric.com or OrlandoElectric.com for your area etc. Nobody and I mean NOBODY will remember your company name and that email address would be impossible.

In one word, yes. Keyword rich domain names do impact SEO in their own way. But that does not mean you should jump through hoops and contort yourself to squeeze loads and loads of keywords into your domain name.

IMO – Its usually up to 15 characters long in the .com extension.

.COM – End of story.. You will hear about many other available extensions and if you absolutely want another extension then you should choose a .co,.net,.io each has their own value, however rest assured you will also be giving some of your traffic to the .com version
